Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the MobWriter website, accounts, collaborative-writing features, content, communications, and related services that link to it (the “Services”). It does not govern third-party websites, services, or applications that have their own privacy notices.

This policy is a notice about personal-information practices. It is not the Terms of Service and does not create contractual rights beyond those provided by applicable law.

MobWriter is operated by MobWriter, LLC, which is responsible for the personal information described in this policy unless another notice says otherwise.

The information we collect depends on how you use the Services. It may include:

• Account and profile information: email address, username or handle, display name, birthdate, biography, profile details, avatar, authentication-provider information, and account status.
• Writing and collaboration information: stories, chapters, drafts, revisions, proposed and merged contributions, story covers, collaboration invitations, contributor or editor roles, review decisions, attribution, and version history.
• Community activity: comments, likes or reactions, favorites, follows, subscriptions, reports, feedback, and related activity.
• Settings and communications: notification preferences, NSFW preferences, support messages, privacy requests, account communications, and feedback.
• Legal and safety information: copyright notices and counter-notices, moderation submissions, appeals, legal requests, dispute records, and other safety or legal communications.
• Technical information: the information described in Section 8 when it is generated through access to or operation of the Services.

Please provide only information that is accurate and necessary for the feature or request you are using.

We collect birthdate during account creation. We use it to verify that an account holder meets the minimum age of 13 and to determine eligibility for NSFW and other age-restricted features.

Birthdate is private. It is not displayed on public profiles or included by MobWriter in public stories, public profile displays, or public search results. Users should not place their full birthdate in public content.

Users under 18 cannot access NSFW content. Users who are 18 or older may access it only while authenticated and subject to applicable visibility preferences, content controls, and restrictions.

We may retain birthdate while reasonably needed for age eligibility, account operation, safety, fraud prevention, disputes, and legal compliance. It may be deleted or anonymized when no longer needed, subject to lawful retention requirements.

You may request correction of inaccurate personal information using the contact process in Section 28. Because birthdate controls age-restricted access, we may request information reasonably necessary to verify identity and the requested correction before making a change.

MobWriter hosts user-generated profiles, stories, chapters, drafts, revisions, contributions, comments, avatars, story covers, and related material. We process that material to provide writing, collaboration, review, publishing, history, moderation, and storage features.

Story owners choose public or private visibility. Private stories and unsubmitted drafts are intended to be limited to authorized users, but owners, accepted collaborators, editors, and other users granted access may view or act on them. Authorized users may copy or disclose information they can access, so visibility controls are not a confidentiality agreement or a guarantee against disclosure.

Contribution and version records may identify the account that created, reviewed, merged, or edited content. The Terms explain the separate rights and permissions that apply to submitted and published contributions.

Depending on account activity and visibility settings, public information may include a username, display name, avatar, biography, public stories and chapters, comments, contribution attribution, version history, story-owner identity, collaborator identity, and other activity designated as public.

Public information may be visible worldwide and may be indexed by search engines or copied, saved, cached, quoted, downloaded, or redistributed by other people and services. Copies may remain outside MobWriter after content or an account is changed or deleted, and we cannot control third-party copies.

Do not include information you want to keep private in a public profile, story, chapter, comment, or other public area. This includes a full birthdate, home address, telephone number, financial information, government identifiers, medical information, credentials, or other sensitive personal information.

When you use the Services, MobWriter and its service providers may automatically receive technical and activity information needed to deliver, secure, diagnose, and understand the Services. Depending on the service and configuration, this may include:

• IP address and approximate location inferred from an IP address;
• browser, device type, operating system, language, and time zone;
• access dates and times, pages visited, feature interactions, search activity, and referring pages;
• session and authentication activity;
• error, diagnostic, and performance information;
• security events, suspected abuse, and attempts to access restricted features; and
• cookie, local-storage, or similar identifiers.

Not every category is collected in every interaction. Service providers may generate technical logs as part of providing their infrastructure.

We may receive information from authentication providers when you use a supported sign-in method, such as an account identifier, email address, name, avatar, provider, and authentication status, depending on the provider and your settings.

We may also receive information from service providers, security tools, people who submit reports or copyright notices, collaborators, public sources, and authorities or other parties involved in legal requests. We use this information only for relevant operational, security, moderation, support, or legal purposes.

We may use information to:

• create, maintain, authenticate, secure, and support accounts;
• enforce minimum-age requirements and restrict age-restricted content;
• operate stories, chapters, drafts, reviews, direct edits, collaboration roles, and merges;
• preserve contribution attribution, acceptance evidence, and version history;
• display public content and honor visibility and preference settings;
• process, resize, crop, store, display, moderate, and remove image uploads;
• send account, security, moderation, collaboration, and notification messages;
• respond to support, feedback, privacy, copyright, and other legal requests;
• maintain and improve performance, usability, reliability, and accessibility;
• detect, investigate, prevent, and respond to abuse, spam, fraud, infringement, unauthorized access, and prohibited content;
• enforce the Terms and other applicable policies;
• review reports, moderation decisions, and appeals where available;
• comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
• support ordinary business operations, financing, reorganization, or a potential business transaction.

MobWriter does not currently use personal information for targeted advertising.

Where a law requires a legal basis for processing, the basis depends on the information and purpose:

• Performance of a contract: providing accounts, authentication, writing, publishing, collaboration, settings, and support requested under the Terms.
• Legitimate interests: operating and improving the Services, preserving collaborative-story integrity and attribution, securing accounts, preventing abuse, responding to disputes, and protecting users and the Services, balanced against applicable rights.
• Consent: when we specifically request consent for an optional activity and consent is the appropriate basis. Consent may be withdrawn for future processing, but withdrawal does not make prior processing unlawful.
• Legal obligations: responding to valid legal process, handling qualifying copyright matters, maintaining required records, and complying with applicable law.
• Vital interests: in limited circumstances involving an urgent threat to someone’s life or safety.

Consent is not the basis for every use of information.

We may disclose information in the following circumstances:

• At your direction or through public features: when you publish content, invite a collaborator, submit a contribution, comment, or otherwise use a feature that shares information with selected users or the public.
• To authorized collaborators: when visibility, invitation status, or a role permits access to a private story, draft, review, or related record.
• To service providers and contractors: as described in Section 13.
• For safety and enforcement: when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect rights and safety, secure the Services, enforce policies, or respond to reports.
• For legal reasons: to respond to valid legal process, copyright procedures, regulatory requests, or legal claims, or when disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by law.
• For business transactions: in connection with due diligence, financing, reorganization, merger, acquisition, asset transfer, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards where required.

We do not describe every disclosure as a “sale” or “sharing”; those terms can have specific definitions under privacy laws. Section 14 explains our current practices.

We may use providers and contractors for hosting, database services, file storage, authentication, email delivery, analytics, error monitoring, security, abuse prevention, customer support, content and image processing, and legal or professional services. Payment providers may be used if paid features are added.

These providers may process information on our behalf for authorized business purposes and subject to applicable contractual restrictions. Their access depends on the service they provide. Some providers may separately process information under their own notices when they act independently rather than on our behalf.

We do not list vendors by name here unless their use and role have been confirmed for the relevant production environment.

MobWriter does not sell personal information for money or other valuable consideration as “sell” is defined under applicable California law.

MobWriter does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as “share” is defined under applicable California law.

MobWriter does not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16. We do not currently use targeted advertising, so there is currently no sale or cross-context behavioral advertising activity to opt out of.

We may disclose personal information to service providers and contractors that process information on our behalf for the business purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Those disclosures are not treated as sales or sharing when the provider is contractually restricted from using the information for prohibited independent purposes. Whether a particular disclosure qualifies for an exception depends on the facts and applicable law.

If these practices change, we will update this policy and provide any notice and choices required before beginning covered sale or sharing practices. You may contact us with questions using Section 28.

MobWriter and its providers may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, session management, security, preferences, eligible-user NSFW settings, analytics, performance, and error diagnosis.

Technologies needed for sign-in, security, requested preferences, or core operation are treated as essential. Nonessential analytics or similar technologies, if configured, are used subject to applicable requirements. MobWriter does not currently use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You can use browser controls to remove or block cookies and local storage, but doing so may sign you out, reset preferences, or prevent features from working. Where EU or UK law requires consent for a nonessential technology, it should not be used until the required choice has been obtained. This policy does not claim that a separate cookie-consent manager is currently available.

NSFW content is available only to authenticated users who are at least 18 years old. Anonymous users and authenticated users under 18 cannot access it. Eligibility is based on the birthdate associated with the account.

Eligible adult users may also need to enable an NSFW visibility preference. We may process whether content is marked NSFW and whether an eligible user enabled that preference to apply content controls, moderation, safety measures, and policy enforcement. NSFW preferences are private and are not displayed publicly.

Illegal sexual content, child sexual abuse material, nonconsensual intimate imagery, sexual exploitation, and other prohibited material are not allowed. We may restrict or remove content and preserve or disclose related information when required by law or reasonably needed for safety, reporting, investigation, legal claims, or legal compliance.

We may process content, account, technical, report, and communication information to review suspected policy violations, spam, fraud, infringement, unsafe conduct, unauthorized access, or service misuse. Review may involve reports from users, system records, service providers, and manual or automated signals where implemented.

We may restrict content or accounts, preserve evidence, notify affected users, cooperate with lawful authorities, and document enforcement decisions where reasonably related to safety, security, legal compliance, dispute handling, or policy enforcement. Moderation may be incomplete or mistaken and is not a promise that every item will be reviewed.

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, taking into account the type of information, how it is used, collaborative dependencies, safety and fraud risks, disputes, copyright matters, legal claims, policy enforcement, legal obligations, and backup restoration.

• Account and profile information may be retained while an account is active and for a reasonable period afterward where needed for the purposes above.
• Birthdate may be retained while needed for age eligibility and account operation, then deleted or anonymized when no longer necessary, subject to lawful exceptions.
• Unmerged drafts may remain until deleted, withdrawn, rejected, abandoned, or removed under applicable product and retention rules.
• Merged contributions, direct edits, attribution, and version records may remain to preserve collaborative-story integrity and an accurate history.
• Terms acceptances and contributor-rights evidence may remain to document accepted terms, permissions, and publishing events.
• Reports, moderation records, security events, legal requests, copyright cases, and dispute records may remain where reasonably needed.
• Backup copies may remain until overwritten or retired through ordinary backup processes.

Retention is not necessarily permanent, and we do not promise a precise period unless a separate notice states one.

Account deletion may remove or anonymize the public profile, avatar, biography, personal settings, private preferences, authentication account, and other account information that is no longer required.

Some information may remain where reasonably necessary, including merged contribution history, attribution, version history, Terms acceptances, contributor-rights evidence, security records, reports, moderation records, copyright cases, legal disputes, backups, and information required by law. Public attribution may be anonymized where technically and legally appropriate while underlying records remain.

Deletion does not remove copies already made or retained by search engines, collaborators, readers, archives, or other third parties. Backup deletion may occur through ordinary overwrite or retirement rather than immediately.

Depending on where you live and whether the applicable law applies to MobWriter, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of certain personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

To submit a request, use the privacy contact in Section 28 and describe the request and account involved. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify identity, account authority, location, or an authorized agent. We will evaluate requests under applicable law.

Rights are not absolute. We may deny or limit a request where an exception applies, including to protect other users’ rights, preserve collaborative and legal records, secure the Services, prevent fraud, comply with law, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. We will not unlawfully discriminate against a person for exercising an applicable privacy right.

Depending on whether California law applies to MobWriter and the request, eligible California residents may have rights to:

• know the categories, sources, purposes, and recipients of personal information and request specific pieces of information;
• access, correct, or delete certain personal information;
• receive information about sale or sharing and opt out of covered sale or sharing;
• limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information where the right applies;
• use an authorized agent, subject to verification and proof of authority; and
• receive non-discriminatory treatment for exercising applicable rights.

The categories we may collect include identifiers and account information; age information; internet or electronic-network activity; approximate geolocation derived from IP where available; user-generated text and images; preferences; collaboration and community activity; and inferences or eligibility results used to apply age and content controls. Sources, purposes, and recipient categories are described throughout this policy.

Section 14 explains current sale, sharing, and targeted-advertising practices. There is currently no covered sale or cross-context behavioral advertising activity to opt out of. Identity or agent verification may be required for applicable requests, and information may be retained under legal exceptions.

Depending on your state, whether the applicable law covers MobWriter, and the type of information involved, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information; opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or certain profiling; and appeal a denied request.

MobWriter does not currently use targeted advertising or sell personal information as described in Section 14. Submit a request or appeal through Section 28. We may verify identity and apply exemptions permitted by law.

Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where MobWriter or its service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from those where you live.

Where required for a restricted international transfer, MobWriter may rely on a recognized transfer mechanism such as an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses, or another lawful safeguard. This statement does not claim that a particular mechanism is currently in place for every transfer.

Where applicable, people in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent, and complaint to a competent data-protection authority. Some rights depend on the legal basis and circumstances and may be limited by exceptions. Use Section 28 to contact us. No Data Protection Officer, EU representative, or UK representative is identified unless separately published.

MobWriter is not intended for children under 13, and users must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

Users who are 13 through 17 may use age-appropriate portions of the Services but cannot access NSFW or other content restricted to adults.

We collect birthdate during registration to enforce these requirements. Birthdate is private and is not displayed publicly.

If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we may suspend the account and delete associated personal information, subject to legal, security, safety, collaborative-record, and retention requirements. MobWriter does not describe the Services as directed to children and does not claim to provide a parental-consent workflow.

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. Depending on the information and system, safeguards may include authenticated sessions, access controls, database access rules, input validation, restricted administrative functions, security logging, and procedures for handling reports and account actions.

No system can guarantee absolute security. We do not promise that unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration will never occur. Protect your credentials, use a unique password, keep independent copies of important writing, and report suspected account compromise to the support contact in Section 28.

The Services may rely on or link to third-party authentication, infrastructure, storage, email, analytics, security, or other services. Their independent processing is governed by their own notices and terms. MobWriter does not control third-party sites, content, security, or privacy practices.

Review a third party’s privacy information before providing information directly to it.

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our Services, technology, vendors, legal requirements, or business practices.

When changes are material, we may provide additional notice by email, through the Services, or by another appropriate method. Where applicable law requires consent, we will obtain it before applying the relevant change.

The effective and last-updated dates at the top identify the applicable version. Continued use is not described as consent where the law requires another basis or a specific choice.
